Bear opens garage door and helps himself in Fayston
“We live near German Flats and had a bear get into our closed garage door, lifting it right open! Muddy paw prints on the door… Our plan now: replace our garage door as soon as we can with one that we can lock, eliminate food from our garbage by putting all food scraps in the freezer until the morning of garbage pick-up, and put ammonia in our trash bin as suggested by someone on Front Porch Forum — thank you! I appreciate all the suggestions and warnings of bears in the area. Whatever the cause, I think it’s important to keep each other informed so that we can find ways together to stop feeding the bears. Feeding any kind of wild animal isn’t good for them either.”

Free / Trade / Wanted in East Montpelier
Fran did a lot with one posting on the East Montpelier Front Porch Forum yesterday…
Free: rhubarb ready to plant. These are from old plants that I needed to move because they are toxic to goats. The plants do get flowering stalks (not all do.)
To Trade: Tomato plants available… Would like to trade for starts of herbs or vegetables. Several well-established plants. Unfortunately, I do not know exactly what kind of tomato they are!
Wanted: Solar electric fencing and energizer.
Wanted: A couple older chickens to eat ticks, slugs and other things in the goat yard. Not interested in eggs. Just the chickens!
Wanted: Home for 2 or 3 pet goats. Wethers and an older doe that can not be bred. They deserve a good home with lots of brambles to eat and daily TLC. Gentle animals. Not for meat, please.
Front door kicked in… Jericho-Underhill break-ins
“Just to let folks know, our home on Pleasant Valley was broken into during daylight hours and two cars parked in the driveway. The front door was kicked in and the home burglarized.”

Car stolen, bogus Comcast repairman casing house, and windows broken in Burlington
Vermonters share news about break-ins and other local crime with their neighbors on Front Porch Forum every day across the state. Yesterday, e.g., the following three incidents were reported on Burlington FPFs:
“My Toyota RAV4 was stolen out of our driveway last night. We live on right on Colchester Ave. I reported it to the police but please if you see a blue 2008 Toyota RAV4 let me know. It is the only car for me and my husband. Make sure everything is locked up… turns out we don’t live in the most secure neighborhood. Please please help us find our car.”

“We had an intruder on our property Sunday morning who said he was working for Comcast and left as soon as confronted. He was obviously casing our home. We called the police who stated he was looking for an ‘opportunity.’ This is just an FYI.”
