“Wow! What a tremendous response to my inquiry for any extra basil! About a dozen gardeners got back to me, with the first response coming in even before the FPF reached my inbox. Thank you, neighbors! I think I’ll have plenty of pesto this winter. If you offered, I will get back to you in the next few days. Thanks again!”

Mystery woods in Barre… neighbors chime in
Julie posted the following last week on her Barre City Front Porch Forum:
Greetings, I have been told about this little wooded area on the north end that borders Pleasant Street and Fourtney Place. It’s a 2-acre piece of land that is called Canales Woods. Looks like back in the day it was a beautiful spot and talks about a butterflies and other wildlife. I have recently visited and it is quite over grown but still salvageable I think.
I saw online that it is a city park and to be maintained by the neighborhood. Does the city do regular maintenance on this park as well? Is there any knowledge as to the fate of this place? Is there any interest in beautifying and fixing it up again to be enjoyed by north end residents? Any knowledge of in-the-works projects to save this place?
Then she posted again yesterday:
Thank you for all the responses about Canales Woods. I have learned a lot of the history of this place which is what i was looking for and also some ideas for its possible future. Thanks again for all the responses! I just love our Front Porch Forum!
Put your FPF to work too! Ask neighbors about local points of interest or mystery… you never know what you’ll learn.
Flourishing in Jeffersonville, Thanks to local Front Porch Forum
“Thanks so much to Front Porch Forum for helping me to become an asset in the community! I have gained new and wonderful people to a growing list of folks needing my assistance in their home. I’m available for Personal Care, laundry, shopping, housework or even travel. I am up for any task and have an extra hand available for larger projects. Together we can tackle anything, from fall cleaning and garden cutbacks, windows, painting. If there are loose ends needing to be tended before winters arrival, give a shout – I’m sure we’re able to lend a hand!”

Hardwick Taco Tuesday a hit
“The Hardwick American Legion Auxiliary would like to say a huge thank you to all who attended our Taco Tuesday! It was a great success and we look forward to seeing all of you on Sept. 22 for our Shepard’s Pie Supper! Same place, same price!
“I hope this reaches those who told me they learned about this on Front Porch Forum. Tonight’s dinner clearly proved that FPF gets the word out… THANK YOU FPF too, I recommend you!”

A sample from the past 24 hours on Front Porch Forum…
“Hi, just saw 5 HORSES meandering up Ripton Rd near Mill Road (by the river) headed toward Grimes rd. Probably past Grimes road by now. This was just a moment ago about 5pm on Tue.”
• Eli, Lincoln FPF
“6:50am Wednesday. Loose DOG on Cochran Road heading toward town. Looked like maybe a German Shepard mix, red collar. Tried to call her/him over to check for a phone number on the tags, but the dog kept trotting.”
• Brie, Richmond FPF
“Hi. One of my Shetland Ram LAMBS has gone a ram-bling. I thought he was in my lower pasture, but alas, no. He is most definitely NOT dangerous… he’s shy and small (about the size of a dalmatian but puffy) and sort of Champagne colored. He’s a sucker for grain, though. His name is Dodger (how ESPish). Thanks.”

“Seeking missing girl BUNNY. We put our boy bunny in the cage because it looked like Daisy was pregnant. (boy bunnies kill the babies) But she has been missing for 3 or 4 days. Please let me know if you see a spotted white and gray bunny. Thanks.”
• Cassy, FPF in Burlington’s South End
“Our gray and white 2yo male KITTY has been missing for a week. He is a smaller cat – about 8 pounds. He has white fur all around his nose except for one dark circle of gray freckled fur. He is mostly gray with a white belly and paws. Please call if you have seen him.”
• Sarah, Rural Essex FPF
“Thank you to our Front Porch Forum, Felicia, and Katlynn. Our sweet DUCK was well taken care of and is home safe!! Thanks to all who showed support and help looking.”

How to gather a crowd in Vermont… even in Sodom
“We had a fun, and interesting, meeting and program at the Adamant Church last night, although it was a very warm evening. As a result of my post on the Calais Front Porch Forum, we had five new guests that were especially interested in hearing about the history of Adamant. Many thanks to Elliott and Lester for sharing facts and stories about the quarries dating back to the 1880s and 1890s. It was then called South Calais, and later Sodom. The rest is history. Thanks again to FPF for all you do for us.”

Neighbors warming hearts in Underhill
“Hello fellow Underhillians, (flat, centered, northern and other). What a beautiful summer we have had… the sun, the rain, the rain, the sun. I am looking for a wheelchair for my Mom. Does anyone have one to borrow or buy? Thanks so much.”
• Mary, Underhill FPF, two days ago
“Thanks to everyone who wrote with ideas and offers for wheelchairs. Thank you Elke, for delivering a really nice wheelchair to me. It warms my heart that we can use Front Porch Forum to offer and get help. And we all need help at different times in our lives. This FPF exchange expresses the words ‘a world that works for everyone.’ I’m sure I will ask for more help as I make this journey of helping my aging parents. Thank you, kindhearted souls.”
