Vermont radon program reaches annual goal in just two weeks by using FPF

Posted on Thursday, February 18, 2016 by No comments yet

Typically, the Vermont Health Dept. devotes a lot of staff time and resources to meeting its goal of distributing 2,000 radon test kits per year. Following its recent Front Porch Forum posting, the Health Dept’s Radon Program received more than 2,100 radon test kit requests in just two weeks.

The effectiveness of this outreach will allow the State to focus on other important initiatives to protect Vermonters from the health risks posed by radon.

The State estimates that for every 2,000 radon test kits distributed, there will be approximately 10 fewer cases of radon-related lung cancer as people identify and fix radon problems in their homes.

Vermonters listen to neighbors’ business recommendations

Screen Shot 2015-11-16 at 7.18.49 AM“I visited Deepa’s Beauty Salon after reading a recommendation on Front Porch Forum. Thanks for the review. I also found it to be very clean, have professional staff, good prices, and great services. Thanks.”
• Luba, Winooski FPF

Here’s the original post recommending this local business…

“Today my out of town friend took our daughters to Deepa’s Beauty Salon for manicures. They had an excellent experience–great customer service and quality of work. The atmosphere was clean, professional, yet also homey and inviting. My friend took off her very valuable (both financially and emotionally) wedding rings for the manicure and then left them there. Several hours later, she realized her mistake.  The salon owners met us after hours on a Saturday night and very cheerfully opened up the salon and returned the rings. We are so grateful for their integrity, honesty, and friendliness. It’s businesses like these that bring pride to Winooski. I encourage you to support this wonderful locally owned business!”

How to find a contractor in Montpelier…

Posted on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 by No comments yet

“Hi Neighbors and FPF. You suggested we use Adam Jackson of Artistone of Vermont to sweep our chimney. He came today and did an excellent job, taking care to double check his work. Adam is also a mason with lots of experience and based on what we saw today, we are hiring him for a small job we need done.”

Neighborly suggestions from Underhill

Posted on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 by No comments yet

Anyone reading this knows what an important role FPF plays in offering a effective means for staying in touch with residents of the town and area.  As a reminder of its value, allow me to suggest that if you haven’t given yet you consider giving:

• 10% or $20 (whichever is less) of the next sale you make or of the next amount you pay for that special item you couldn’t find anywhere else;

• if you recover a lost pet, an amount that reflects how important that pet is to you;

• if you advertise your services with a post instead of an ad and your post is successful, think about giving a small percentage of the receipts from your first job;

• or, if you just enjoy seeing the FPF e-mail each day, give what you can afford to help keep it coming.

My only affiliation with FPF is as a grateful user.

Flourishing in Jeffersonville, Thanks to local Front Porch Forum

Posted on Thursday, August 27, 2015 by No comments yet

“Thanks so much to Front Porch Forum for helping me to become an asset in the community! I have gained new and wonderful people to a growing list of folks needing my assistance in their home. I’m available for Personal Care, laundry, shopping, housework or even travel. I am up for any task and have an extra hand available for larger projects. Together we can tackle anything, from fall cleaning and garden cutbacks, windows, painting. If there are loose ends needing to be tended before winters arrival, give a shout – I’m sure we’re able to lend a hand!”
