Kitten Buffy returns from South Burlington wilderness
“Buffy, the 4-month-old cat, came home safe last night after a 36 hour adventure… After visiting his old haunts where he lived as an autonomous outdoor cat for his first 3 months, he seems to have decided that being a house cat is not such a bad gig after all… Thanks to Front Porch Forum for getting the word out fast and wide. I have no doubt that many more pets are finding their way home since FPF came into being. That’s why my husband and I are monthly supporting members.”

Free drink for a Trump supporter
I know this election has shaken up a lot of people on both sides of the debate. One thing I see happening more than anything else is an inability for people to communicate and have empathy towards those with different views. It is sad, though luckily for us in Vermont it isn’t nearly as bad as some other places in this country.
I have set a goal for myself to sit down with someone with a differing perspective than my own, share a drink (whatever it may be) and to just listen a bit. I am not out to make a debate. Nor to talk at someone else. But I do want to know about what a Trump supporter sees as the biggest issues in their world, what about Trump inspires them, and what about him may be concerning. I also want that same person to hear someone who is different than them actually giving a shit about their opinion, in an effort to bridge the divide that the media says we all have.
This is an act of reconciliation and hope. I want to see us rise above our political differences. We are all in this together.

“I want to thank the Starksboro Conservation Commission for once again hosting a delicious, congenial and well-attended Harvest Turkey Dinner to benefit the Four Winds program at the Robinson School. The dinner was fantastic, but I came away with one complaint: Someone made a fantastic strawberry rhubarb pie with a gluten free crust but I couldn’t find out who…and I would love to learn to make a tender crust like that myself. Please ‘fess up and send me an email with the recipe or I’ll be wondering forever! Thanks!”

Northeast Kingdom neighbors rally after home burns
“I want to send out a heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped my son after his house fire in August. I especially want to thank Vicki, Angela, and the anonymous donor who put together large donations of money and household goods he needed to get back on his feet. Without everyone’s help, he would have to live in a camper.
“After the fire, I figured we would be stuck scraping and scrounging to get him a place to live. I was convinced we would have to do it all on our own; that we didn’t count to anyone in town… All these people came together without us even asking and saved us a lot of struggle. You have all restored a big piece of my faith in human nature.
“My son’s trailer is supposed to be set in place today, and with a little luck we will have most of the utilities hooked up by this weekend. Again, thank you all so much for your help.”

Nothing was left untouched. Cash, a few personal items and a bicycle were the only items stolen. Just posting this to make others aware that there may be more criminal activity around your home, too.
