Bears, lasers and shoggoths in Richmond

“Without Front Porch Forum, how would you have heard about the hungry bears going door to door in an unmarked Suburban ‘raising funds’? “Stolen” Montpelier pie taken in error returned
“I think it is always good to share good news. A friend told me that the pie that was thought stolen from Court Street was taken in error by a teacher who was gathering goods for disadvantaged students from a free pile on the same porch! Once the teacher read Front Porch Forum, the pie was returned untouched accompanied by a donation for the bottle drive!”

Middlebury nudist colony?

What a wonderful community Front Porchers are! Thank you all for your many responses to my request for a shower bench for my husband. We had enough offers to provide for a disabled nudist colony and now have a bench that was delivered in person to our homestead. You are the best!
It will make life much easier for husband and the wonderful Home Health folks who come to help in the shower.

Another bear sighting. This one was a good size and crossed Rt. 100 just north of the recycling center around 9:20 pm on Monday. The answer to the age old question of why did the (insert bear in place of chicken) cross the road seems obvious:

Found Lost Doritos Bag in Winooski – Yours?
A thoughtful “lost and found” posting by Matt on the Winooski Front Porch Forum yesterday…
I found a doritos bag in my veggie plot down at the end of West Street. It is a blue bag… Cool Ranch flavor. It was empty except for some water, which I will assume was rain water. If this is your bag, or if you know who lost this Doritos bag please have them contact me. I can only assume someone out there has nowhere to put their Doritos and is probably on the edge of panic. I am not on here angling for a reward. The look of joy on the rightful owners face is reward enough for this humble samaritan.

#BTV #VT – A few months back, my husband posted a request on the Five Sisters Front Porch Forum asking to borrow a skull. We had four offers by morning.
On Friday, I sent in a note asking for someone to adopt a few chickens. Two guys from Hayward took three of the hens today.
Only in Vermont.

New twist on “dog ate my homework”
#VT – Hey neighbors! This is an odd bulletin but I wanted to share with you that after hiking with my dog at the gorge (aka Cady’s Falls swimming hole) yesterday he became ill in the late afternoon. He presented with ataxia (wobbliness), dry nose and then later in the night he lost control of his bladder and was constantly incontinent. I took him to the emergency vet in Burlington only for them to give him a drug test and find he was high as a kite on pot. Thankfully this wasn’t lethal, but after the two hour drive and $150 vet bill it also isn’t as humorous as it may sound. He threw up quite a bit of stems and other debris this morning and he’s still pretty out of it.
The only place he could have come into contact with this was at the gorge and he did indeed do the normal lab thing of digging around, trying to (and I guess successfully) eating things and rolling in who knows what, so I’m supposing he found someone’s lost stash. I’m hoping this is an isolated incident but if you are hiking with your pup out there please keep a very close eye on them.
