Need complete fly fishing set-up? Try neighbors

Posted on Thursday, April 7, 2016 by No comments yet

“Owing to great success, Front Porch Forum has become my “look here first” place for finding props for various productions I’m involved with. Currently, I am producing a feature film for a Burlington area filmmaker. We are seeking a complete set of fly fishing gear (rod & reel, waders, etc.) and possibly the expertise of the owner to consult on the film. Production of this scene will happen in late May or June, likely to be a one-day shoot. We are providing credit in the film. Thanks!”

Frozen pipes and helpful neighbors in Waterbury

Posted on Friday, March 4, 2016 by No comments yet

“Thanks to all that responded to my plea for help with frozen pipes. So many wrote with suggestions and names to call. After calling at least ten of the numbers, we finally found a wonderful plumber. The name is ‘All in One.’ He came when he said he’d be there, got the job done and charged a fair price. We have water after 2 full weeks. Five stars to All in One.  Just goes to prove the power of FRONT PORCH FORUM.”

Vermont radon program reaches annual goal in just two weeks by using FPF

Posted on Thursday, February 18, 2016 by No comments yet

Typically, the Vermont Health Dept. devotes a lot of staff time and resources to meeting its goal of distributing 2,000 radon test kits per year. Following its recent Front Porch Forum posting, the Health Dept’s Radon Program received more than 2,100 radon test kit requests in just two weeks.

The effectiveness of this outreach will allow the State to focus on other important initiatives to protect Vermonters from the health risks posed by radon.

The State estimates that for every 2,000 radon test kits distributed, there will be approximately 10 fewer cases of radon-related lung cancer as people identify and fix radon problems in their homes.

Home energy audit recommendations in Vermont

“Thanks to the 20(!) people who responded to my question about home energy audits. You provided several different recommendations and a few very helpful caveats, and I feel much clearer about how to proceed. This is a great example of how Front Porch Forum rocks!”

Vermonters listen to neighbors’ business recommendations

Posted on Monday, November 16, 2015 by No comments yet

Screen Shot 2015-11-16 at 7.18.49 AM“I visited Deepa’s Beauty Salon after reading a recommendation on Front Porch Forum. Thanks for the review. I also found it to be very clean, have professional staff, good prices, and great services. Thanks.”
• Luba, Winooski FPF

Here’s the original post recommending this local business…

“Today my out of town friend took our daughters to Deepa’s Beauty Salon for manicures. They had an excellent experience–great customer service and quality of work. The atmosphere was clean, professional, yet also homey and inviting. My friend took off her very valuable (both financially and emotionally) wedding rings for the manicure and then left them there. Several hours later, she realized her mistake.  The salon owners met us after hours on a Saturday night and very cheerfully opened up the salon and returned the rings. We are so grateful for their integrity, honesty, and friendliness. It’s businesses like these that bring pride to Winooski. I encourage you to support this wonderful locally owned business!”
