Seeking apple picker pole in Plainfield
“Dear community: Thank you so much for your generosity. Three people immediately responded to my last post about a bike stand, and were so incredibly generous… thank you! Since Front Porch Forum seems to work so well, I am now looking for an apple picker (one of those funny metal baskets on a long extendable pole for reaching the tall apples). If you have one you no longer need, I would be happy to take it off your hands, buy it, or trade you for an apple pie next fall. Thanks so much.”

Ten guns stolen from Williamstown home
“One of my relatives’ houses on Chelsea Road in Williamstown was broken into recently. Stolen from it, among other things, were 10 guns. Mostly shot guns, and one hand gun. The state police and local gun shops have copies of all the serial numbers. If you could keep this in mind when buying guns off Facebook or any other sites that would be great! Thank you & Happy Holidays!”

Real-life Grinch steals lighted Christmas tree in Waterbury
“We had a small, artificial tree that we put in our front yard each year as part of our Christmas lighting. Someone (had to be a Grinch) stole it and the 300 lights and nearly ruined the extension cord hitched to it. I hope it was someone who couldn’t afford it and just wanted some trim for their kids to enjoy. My fear is that the fact may be way different. Anyway, it is gone and I just wanted people to know that their outdoor trim may not be all that secure. We are ready for unforeseen possibilities.”

Shelburne foosball secret
“Just a quick note to thank Front Porch Forum for providing a great way for neighbors to connect. We were looking for a foosball table, someone responded through FPF, they were glad to have a family with younger kids have it, and our kids will be thrilled (but they don’t know yet — shhhh). Saved from ice pirouette in Bristol
“I would like to thank the very nice man who saved me from a fall on the ice outside the Lawrence Memorial Library yesterday (Monday). I was doing a nice pirouette on invisible ice which would have ended in a nasty fall, and this person caught my hand and saved me from disaster. I hope that he is subscribed to Front Porch Forum!”

Sharing flowers with lonely Jericho neighbors during holidays
“My husband and I like to drive around the neighborhood on Christmas and deliver our leftover flowers to people who may be alone or lonely on the holiday. We would like our neighbors to please help us by giving us names and addresses of people who would appreciate a little pick-me-up. Please do not post them on the Forum for safety reasons. Squeaky wheel… Clearing junk from Winooski lots
“Hey neighbors! I live in the flats down by River Street and there is enough furniture cast outside to furnish a two-bedroom apartment! Mallett’s Bay corner has like 3 couches… drive a little way past Chick’s on River and you’ve got the abandoned lot with mattresses and tires. Then a little further down is a television that’s been there for weeks. Anyone have any idea why our code enforcement allows our city to look like this? Let’s have a little more pride of place! It’s really quite embarrassing when hosting visitors. Anyone want to organize a clean up? I don’t have a truck, but I just got a tetanus shot so I’m up for it! Maybe the city will reimburse our dump payment? Please contact me and let’s get this crap out of our streets!”

“The squeaky wheel gets the grease and I’m happy to report the mattresses and tires have been removed from the lot on River Street! I’m not sure who is responsible for the clean-up but I’d wager my calls, e-mails and Front Porch Forum discussion was a help to expedite the process! I’m so glad to live in a community where action is taken once the problem is addressed. Let’s stay engaged and keep our streets clean!
