Puppy-mill rescue dog terrified of thunder in Shelburne

“We’ve discovered that our newly-adopted White Cream Golden Retriever is terrified of thunderstorms, This is the second thunderstorm season we’ve had Lillie and we’re brainstorming ways to reduce her anxiety without putting her in a stupor for 24 hours! I’m not against medicating my dog when it’s in her best interest, but we have considered her history of growing up in a cage in a puppy-mill in Alabama. Long story short, we thought of borrowing a large crate to see if that makes her feel more safe… Thanks!”

Vergennes stolen purse – happy ending

1130a861f02b00b460a0f65c168b47ce“Saturday evening, I inadvertently left my purse and tote on the sidewalk in the heart of Vergennes at the streetlight. Multi-tasking, I put my purse and tote down outside the Men’s Corner to load something up, then drove away. Upon our return 20 minutes later, my wicker purse (with wide black ribbon) and burlap tote (with white polka dots) were gone. Vergennes Police have been notified. My wallet, checkbook, cash, iPhone and other basics are gone; hopefully, not forever. If anybody has any information leading to their findings, please contact me. Offering $200 reward. Thank you.”

“Three cheers to Front Porch Forum – Sunday evening, I reported the unfortunate event of my stolen purse and tote bag on Main Street. Monday morning, I began the arduous task of obtaining a new drivers license, replacing my cell phone, and ridding myself of the anger I was harboring. I was particularly sad about the loss of my new purse from Malabar. The Little City with the Big Heart rallied and I extend my thanks to those who provided empathy and support since my last post. And good news – the thieves weren’t interested in my purse! Along with the tote, it was tossed into bushes on a nearby street and found the next day, unharmed. My thanks to FPF and concerned citizens, and the dear young couple who found it and returned it to me. Happy screams, hugs, and great joy followed. The longest day of the year had a very happy ending!“

Shelburne-ite finds small-job carpenter for Burlington friend

Grand Isle teens ready to get to work

“The Yard Work Assistance position has been filled – I had contact from seven young folks, both girls and boys from eighth grade to high school age, within two hours of the FPF posting. This warmed my heart – we hear so much criticism of young people these days. Vergennes kids threatened with gun

June 13, shortly before 5:00pm, my three oldest boys were outside playing. A vehicle drove past them… and the driver pointed a gun out the window of the car at my children, said something they couldn’t understand, and drove away, up Elm Street and turned onto 22A/Main Street. The boys were scared and ran inside to tell my husband and me. We called the police who came by to speak with them.

Unfortunately, my sons were startled and did not get much information to help figure out who did this. They each confirm that the vehicle was blue and they say it looks like a Suburu but could be mistaken. They are pretty sure two teenage guys were in the car and that it had green, VT plates. But they aren’t sure what direction it headed once it turned onto Main Street. The gun looked to them like a small, black gun.

While I hope that the most likely scenario is that some very cruel, irresponsible guys did this with a fake weapon as a deranged joke, we have no way of knowing who they were or why they did this. Frankly, I am very scared. If you have any knowledge of who this could have been, please call the Vergennes PD to report it.

One of the very best things about living in this small, tight-knit community is the way everyone looks out for each other. Thank you for taking the time to read this post and share any information you may have regarding it with the police.
