Guitar thefts spread from Marlboro to Newfane

Posted on Sunday, September 11, 2016 by No comments yet

screen-shot-2016-09-11-at-5-57-25-pm“The guitar/stringed instrument thefts that have been hitting Marlboro have now come to Newfane. They seem to be targeted to out-of-the-way places and, somehow, the thieves know where to find the good instruments.”

Richmond good neighbors recover forgotten bike

Posted on Saturday, September 10, 2016 by No comments yet

“Reason #57 why we love Richmond: You can forget your unlocked bike at the park and find it again four days later! So grateful to the friend who called after finding the helmet with our name on it, and to the observant villager who got the mountain bike back to us after reading my Front Porch Forum post. He actually joined FPF to figure out how to get the bike back to its owner! Love this town and the people in it, as well as FPF.”

Colchester daytime break-in – Two locked doors kicked in

Posted on Saturday, September 10, 2016 by No comments yet

“We came home yesterday to find that someone had jumped out 6-ft fence, kicked in two locked doors and stolen jewelry and watches. We are devastated, especially as one of the pieces was a family heirloom. Be safe and be on the lookout for any suspicious activity in the neighborhood!”

Hate crime in Craftsbury

Posted on Friday, August 26, 2016 by No comments yet

Posted on the Craftsbury FPF by Sterling College President, Matthew Derr:

The outpouring of support for Sterling and its students, following a number of incidents on campus this summer, that included vandalism and the theft of Black Lives Matters signs, has been appreciated.

Unfortunately, I write to report another serious incident that took place on the evening of Saturday, August 19 near the Common. A Sterling student was accosted with racial and homophobic slurs by passengers in a car who also threw an object at the student before speeding away. This incident was witnessed by a faculty member.

Faculty, staff, and students are supporting this student and Sterling is once again working closely with the Vermont State Police, who have determined that this incident qualifies as a hate crime.

To take a public stand against racism and injustice in our community, Sterling is organizing a solidarity vigil for Wednesday, September 14. Craftsbury residents are invited to join the Sterling community for dinner at 6:00 p.m., with the vigil to follow on Craftsbury Common.

Sterling will also offer a series of educational programs this fall on issues of inclusion, in collaboration with other community organizations. More details will follow on Front Porch Forum.

Duxbury Great Dane and Vizsla home!

“So our Great Dane & Vizsla are found. Thank you all for your help and action They were spotted by a FPF member in N Fayston on Sunday at 9 AM (4.5 miles from our house). We looked for them all day Monday to no avail – thanks to those who I bothered by knocking on their door in earnest. Got a call today from very nice folks who had them walk up and plop on their front lawn 2 miles from where they were sighted Sunday. Both are skeletal looking and the Vizsla needed help from Roy to remove quills (thanks Roy and team – you’re the best!) Back home and soundly sleeping on their couch. Thank you all – we are so relieved and Front Porch Forum is the best – this is where all the info flowed.”

Karma: Lost bankroll returned to generous owner in South Hero

Posted on Monday, July 25, 2016 by No comments yet

“On Sunday morning some money was dropped on my front lawn. I have a table with Yard Sale Items with a sign that reads FREE OR DONATE TO THE FRANKLIN HUMANE SOCIETY. There was some money left in the donation tub. I would guess that the money I found fell out of your pocket when/if you made a donation. Thank you, by the way. The found money was an amount that I could not afford to lose. If you are this person or know who it may be please call me or stop by. By the way, NO SCAMMERS!. I have no tolerance for thieves and if you cannot satisfy me that you are indeed the person who lost this money I will report your license plate number to the Sheriff’s Dept. Hope to hear from you. If this money is not claimed it will, in fact, be a donation the Franklin Count Humane Society. Thank you.”
• Thom, South Hero FPF

“I posted a found money notice yesterday on FPF. Update: the individual and the money have been happily re-united. The end-all to this situation is that it happened so quickly and that it happened at all only because of Front Porch Forum. Thanks.”
