Seeking hard-to-find item? Try buying used from neighbors

Posted on Thursday, July 7, 2016 by No comments yet

“Hi all. I want 4 shepard’s hook style pole for hanging plants, etc. I need them to be at least 48″ tall, taller would be fine. Before I buy new, thought I’d see if anyone has some they’d like to sell.”
• Doreen, Berlin FPF

“Just like that! I am no longing seeking hooks. A neighbor had some that were far more elaborate than I could have wished for and at an extremely reasonable price. Thanks Brian, and thanks Front Porch Forum for connecting us all!”

Puppy-mill rescue dog terrified of thunder in Shelburne

Posted on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 by No comments yet

“We’ve discovered that our newly-adopted White Cream Golden Retriever is terrified of thunderstorms, This is the second thunderstorm season we’ve had Lillie and we’re brainstorming ways to reduce her anxiety without putting her in a stupor for 24 hours! I’m not against medicating my dog when it’s in her best interest, but we have considered her history of growing up in a cage in a puppy-mill in Alabama. Long story short, we thought of borrowing a large crate to see if that makes her feel more safe… Thanks!”
• Leslie, Shelburne FPF

“Thank you for an overwhelming response to my post regarding my dog’s fear of thunderstorms! I received myriad offers including advice on conditioning, the use of Thundershirts, readers’ experiences of their dog’s fear, and offers for crates. We ended up getting an extra-large crate and met Georgia and Bill as well as their three rescues, King, Mike and Sweet Pea (a special thanks to you!) Needless to say, I am an avid fan of Front Porch Forum!”

“I am posting for a friend who lives in the South End of Burlington. She needs someone to repair a few exterior steps and landing. The carpenters she has contacted have said the job is too small for them to bother with. If you know of a person that would do small odd jobs such as this, please send me their contact information and I will pass it along to my friend.”
• Karen, Shelburne FPF

“A huge thanks to all the carpenters who responded to my request on behalf of a friend in Burlington for someone to work a small job. I received numerous responses which I will forward to my friend. Front Porch Forum is truly a great resource for helping our neighbors out. Thanks again.”

“My post about our missing Maine Coon cat was published within minutes of submitting it. I received a response from a neighbor not long after. Then a few hours later, she finally showed up at our door. Maybe she heard that people were looking for her! Thank you Front Porch Forum. This is an extraordinarily valuable community service.”
