Tristan shared the following announcement in the Montpelier Forum. We thought it was well worth a share:

“A new club is forming in Montpelier. It is called the Society of Undersocialized Parents. The premise is that adult friendship quietly collapses when children arrive, that this happens to very nearly everyone, and that nobody mentions it because it sounds like complaining about a good life.

“Assembly No. 1 convenes Tuesday, September 8, at seven O’Clock in the evening, at the bar at J. Morgans inside the Capitol Plaza Hotel, 100 State Street. Some particulars:

-Membership is open to any parent who has noticed they have fewer friends than they used to. Married, partnered, divorced, solo, widowed. Marital status is neither collected nor relevant.

-The venue was chosen on acoustic grounds. J. Morgans is the quietest room in Montpelier that will still serve you something. We are there for the quiet and not the drink; there is coffee and seltzer, and nobody is counting.

-This is not a support group.

-No one intends to be out past nine. We are parents, and we are old.

“Daytime outings, with children, may follow. Dates will be put to the membership, which is a grand way of saying we will decide at the bar. Correspondence to undersocializedmontp@icloud.com. Attendance requires nothing further: arrive at seven, or arrive at eight, or arrive in October instead.”
