Julie posted the following last week on her Barre City Front Porch Forum:
Greetings, I have been told about this little wooded area on the north end that borders Pleasant Street and Fourtney Place. It’s a 2-acre piece of land that is called Canales Woods. Looks like back in the day it was a beautiful spot and talks about a butterflies and other wildlife. I have recently visited and it is quite over grown but still salvageable I think.
I saw online that it is a city park and to be maintained by the neighborhood. Does the city do regular maintenance on this park as well? Is there any knowledge as to the fate of this place? Is there any interest in beautifying and fixing it up again to be enjoyed by north end residents? Any knowledge of in-the-works projects to save this place?
Then she posted again yesterday:
Thank you for all the responses about Canales Woods. I have learned a lot of the history of this place which is what i was looking for and also some ideas for its possible future. Thanks again for all the responses! I just love our Front Porch Forum!
Put your FPF to work too! Ask neighbors about local points of interest or mystery… you never know what you’ll learn.
