#VT – I am one of a group of people who are working to keep up the Peace Garden this summer.
I want to share what happened this morning: I was at the Garden, weeding the paths, when some children came along and asked what I was doing.
They wanted to know if I get paid. So, I stopped and sat on the edge of a continent (Europe, I think) and asked if they knew about the Peace Garden. “No” I told them about it being designed by a fifth grade class back in 1991, about it falling into disrepair over the years, and about how a group of people are working to keep in beautiful.
Again, they wondered why I would do such a thing without getting paid… I simply said “I want to do something for my community” and didn’t say anymore. Those kids started weeding!
After a bit, they wandered off. Before I left, they were back with a couple more kids and they were standing there telling them the story of the Peace Garden! It was heartwarming to see.
