Brian decided to start a contest on the Richmond Forum. We thought it was well worth a share:
“We are in the midst of some amazing icicle weather. I have seen a few noteworthy ice-stalagtites that should be documented. I’m sure there are hidden gems all over. Let’s make it fun. Share a picture. It beats politics.
Category 1) length
Category 2) mass
Category 3) amazing-ness”
Because the weekly “Best of FPF” is shared across the state, Vermonters from all over answered Brian’s invitation and started to post their own icicle magic (to the Wildlife Category for easy photo sharing). Enjoy!

this may sound like fun but it can be very dangerous when they break off and fall down or curl into the windows and break the glass. I know I am an old curmudgeon but think twice before getting near icicles.
THESE PHOTOS ARE AMAZING!! What a SUPER Idea to share around VT, and Beyond!! My absolute favorite is the second to last photo by Frank, Reading Forum. He truly captured the beauty of Icicle formation from the bottom up, AND very nicely framed with black and white tremendous trees !! Very Beautiful!!
To All……THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR WONDERFUL PHOTOS, CAPTURING VERMONT’S BEAUTY AND COMMUNITY!!
It should be pointed out that large icicles are not a good sign. In a building large icicles indicates a drastic heat loss.
Frank, Reading Forum : a veritable icicle cathedral!
Nicole, Milton Forum: my favorite!
very pretty no matter what any one says against them.
Bottom row featuring sideways icicles with the sliding, curving roof snow is really odd.
Such wonderful pictures. What fun. Let’s not get too serious here. I don’t think anyone will get killed or freeze because of heat loss. In this area we have winter and it brings ice and snow. Love that you are honoring our weather here in Vermont. The snow fairies 1st in the 4th row is magical.
Thank you for your concerns. Yes, we know they can be dangerous, and that they indicate that there’s something not working properly, but many Vermonters get these beauties every year. Wows, laughs and omgs accompanied my perusal of these photos 🙂 Thanks everyone.
All my icicles went away this weekend. Hopefully, everyone else’s melted or fell down without anyone getting hurt or windows damaged.
